General pest control is the ordinary, unglamorous programme that stops most problems from ever becoming problems. It matters more here than it does in a lot of the country simply because of the climate. Humid subtropical East Texas does not really deliver a hard winter, so there is no long dead season that resets the pressure. Activity slows and picks up again, but it does not stop, and a building that is left alone for a year is a building that something has moved into. The approach is straightforward. A treated barrier goes around the exterior of the structure, concentrating on the places things actually cross: the base of the walls, around the slab, doorways, weep holes, utility penetrations, eaves and the areas where vegetation or stored material touches the building. Inside, treatment goes where activity is genuinely showing rather than everywhere on principle. Alongside that, the visit is an inspection: gaps under doors, torn screens, unsealed penetrations, firewood against a wall and heavy mulch banked up against the slab are all things that will keep letting pests in no matter what is sprayed, and it is more useful to point them out than to keep treating the symptom. Commercial premises get the same approach scheduled around trading hours.
